Although Wyoming does not require pre-licensing courses, there are study materials available to help applicants pass the state exam.

Materials are available from Kaplan Financial (www.kaplanfinancial.com), Cape School (www.capeschools.com) and Able, Inc. (www.abelincorporated.com). In addition to the materials available from the three companies mentioned here, there are companies that offer pre-licensing preparation courses along with the necessary printed material. Learninginsurance.com, for instance, is one company that offers such prep packages.

Once applicants feel prepared to take the state exam, they must schedule a date to take the licensing exam through Pearson Vue. Pearson Vue administers the licensing exams for the state of Wyoming. Scheduling can be done online through the Pearson Vue website www.PearsonVue.com.

Insurance Background Check

After passing the state exam, individuals seeking the Wyoming producer's license must submit to a credit and criminal background check. The Wyoming Insurance Department takes the integrity of the produces very seriously. No one gets an application without providing such information.

Applicants have the option of requesting their credit report from the three major credit reporting agencies, Experian, Trans Union and Equifax, or they may obtain a credit report from freecreditreport.com. Either source is acceptable according to the Wyoming Department of Insurance.

The criminal background check must encompass at least the last five years of activity. The department requires both a Federal and state background check. Therefore applicants must provide criminal background reports from the Federal District Court and State District Court.
